Necklace - "Ocean Tangle"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
This necklace was inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts. She gives them to us expecting nothing in return, except our love.
COMPONENTS: This necklace “percolated” in my mind for a long, long time. When I began crocheting with wire again, the idea of the “basket” came to me and the pearl trails just followed, as if the idea was obvious all along. In this piece, I used fine antique brass wire and freshwater pearls in various shades of cream, white, green, khaki and very faint pink. I mixed brass and copper - much of it oxidized. The chain is a medley of different link shapes and sizes - dressed up with more freshwater pearls in three little dangles. There is no closure - the necklace slips over your head.
DIMENSIONS: Chain length: approx. 30”, 76 cm
Pendant information:
length: 4 3/4”, 12 cm (from the top of the basket to the bottom of the longest trail)
width: 1 1/4”. 3.2 cm
There is a world underneath the ocean’s surface - a world many of us have never seen but we can picture it in our imaginations, drawing on what we know about the rich marine fauna and flora at the bottom of the ocean. Some of the creatures may be quite fantastic- in shapes and colours a human mind may not easily comprehend. Many of the ocean’s inhabitants around the Bay of Fundy are seasonal residents, attacted by the rich feeding grounds and friendly summer currents. This necklace was inspired by an imaginary ocean tangle, a delightful and loving encounter.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Do not submerge the necklace. Doing so will alter the patina and the pearls. If the necklace gets wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue.
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
