Earrings - "Ancient Shores"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: In these earrings, I paired various hammered and altered textures and hues, and used lots of raw brass. The earrings will stay demurely as you move. The beads are faceted premium Czech glass, in lovely shades of aqua and blue/green. All of the brass components are also covered in heavy Grand Manan Patina - one I achieved by applying to them different natural ingredients, and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the Island, to “age”. The patina is raw - meaning that there will be slight alternations in it from time to time - as if the metal were alive.
Suspended from stainless steel, handmade earwires. You have a choice here (see last photo):
Option A - Kite Stainless Steel with plastic backs
OR
Option B - Almond Stainless Steel with closure - please select at CHECKOUT
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) 2 1/4”, 5.6 cm - slightly shorter if selecting Option A for earwires.
Grand Manan Island is a geological wonder, and for decades it has attracted geologists from far and wide. Some describe it as having a “split personality”, related to the fault that runs north to south, closer to the eastern side of the island - the Red Point Fault. It divides the island into two unequal parts - the western two-thirds were formed by lava flows, called “flood basalt”, dating back to about 201 million years ago. The eastern one-third is composed of metamorphic rocks, which are much older, dating back to somewhere between 613 and 535 million years ago. The island has ancient shores, indeed.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings as that may alter the patina. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
