Earrings - "Colonnades"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: In these geometric earrings, I paired hammered and altered raw brass circles with dangles I made using polymer clay - scratched and painted for more interest. The earrings are not identical and will stay demurely as you move. The brass components are also covered in the Grand Manan Patina - one I achieved by applying to them different natural ingredients, and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the Island, to “age”. The patina is raw - meaning that there will be slight alternations in it from time to time - as if the metal were alive. Incredibly lightweight, despite their size.
Suspended from stainless steel, handmade earwires. You have a choice here (see last photo):
Option A - Kite Stainless Steel with plastic backs
OR
Option B - Almond Stainless Steel with closure - please select at CHECKOUT
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) 2 3/8”, 6 cm - slightly shorter if selecting Option A for earwires.
Grand Manan Island is geologically varied - a true delight for visiting scientists. One of its most amazing features are the basalt colonnades you will find at Southwest Head and along the south-western side of the island - incredibly tall and steep, they are beautiful, awe-inspiring and definitely photo-worthy. The ocean below, lapping into coves and rock outcroppings, can appear almost tropical-blue. These earrings remind us of that landscape.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings as that may alter the patina on the brass and the paint in the clay. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
