Earrings - "Swallow House"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: In these feminine earrings, I combined different shapes and textures to invoke a natural, rustic look. I achieved a pop of colour with the aid of little lilac glass crystals, encased in brass. All of the brass components are covered in the Grand Manan Patina - one I achieved by applying to them different natural ingredients, and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the Island, to “age”. The patina is raw - meaning that there will be slight alternations in it from time to time - as if the metal were alive. I added tiny brass circles for more movement.
Suspended from stainless steel, handmade earwires. You have a choice here (see last photo):
Option A - Kite Stainless Steel with plastic backs
OR
Option B - Almond Stainless Steel with closure - please select at CHECKOUT
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) 2 5/8”, 6.3 cm - slightly shorter if selecting Option A for earwires.
There are many swallow houses on Grand Manan Island - including at Fernleigh Ridge. In the enviorns of Anchorage Park and Long Pond on the other side of the dunes from the beach, you will see several of them, nestled among the lupins, beach grasses and beach sweet peas. The birds are a delight to watch as they swoop over the dunes and around your head, if you stand there long enough. Their presence is reinforcing, life-affirming and joyful.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings as that may alter the patina. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
