Earrings - "Vanishing"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: Hammered circles in raw brass, reminiscent of the cycle of the tide, dance together to form dangles. All of the brass components are also covered in the Grand Manan Patina - one I achieved by applying to them different natural ingredients, and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the Island, to “age”. The patina on the circles is raw - meaning that there will be slight alternations in it from time to time - as if the metal were alive.
Suspended from stainless steel, handmade earwires. You have a choice here (see last photo):
Option A - Kite Stainless Steel with plastic backs
OR
Option B - Almond Stainless Steel with closure - please select at CHECKOUT
The intertidal zone is quite broad on Grand Manan Island - in other words, there are wide swaths of the shore that are exposed when it ebbs but then vanish under the waves when it returns. Take Anchorage Beach - if you go there at low tide, you will see pronounced rocks some distance from the edge of the ocean as it kisses the beach - often a perch for many seagulls - a lovely colour contrast in the distance with the darkness of the rock setting off the white and grey of the seagulls’ feathers. If you stay long enough, you will see the rocks vanishing again….and returning to the landscape several hours later.
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) 2 1/8”, 5.3 cm - slightly shorter if selecting Option A for earwires.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings as that may alter the patina. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue.
Remember, please, that different device monitors display colour in different ways.
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
