Earrings - "Second Summer"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: These feminine dangle earrings feature different hues, shapes and textures. They whisper of Second Summer breezes over the open expanse of the Bay of Fundy, where whales play before departing for warmer waters. I have hammered and scratched the little raw brass shields for a more natural, authentic look. From them, I have suspended premium faceted Czech glass beads in a beguiling shade of orange. All of the brass components are also covered in the Grand Manan Patina - one I achieved by covering them with different natural ingredients and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the Island, to “age”. The patina is raw - meaning that there will be slight alternations in it from time to time - as if the metal were alive.
Suspended from stainless steel, handmade earwires. You have a choice here (see last photo):
Option A - Kite Stainless Steel with plastic backs
OR
Option B - Almond Stainless Steel with closure - please select at CHECKOUT
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) 3 1/8”, 8cm - slightly shorter if selecting Option A for earwires.
Second Summer (also known as Indian Summer) is an unseasonably warm and dry period during the Fall in the Northern Hemisphere, sometimes as late as after the first frost. Summer memories flood back, and migrating birds stay where they are for a few days, taking advantage of flowers and other plants that are seeding ahead of the winter season. The sun has moved over the horizon but it can still send amazingly warm rays to the landscape below, decorated with hues of orange and ochre and brown and rust. Second Summer.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings as that may alter the patina. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue.
The photos are of a sample pair of earrings. Yours will be as close to the photographed sample as possible.
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
