Earrings - "The Ocean and the Fog"
“Mother Nature seldom gives us perfectly straight lines or flawlessly shiny surfaces. Mother Nature is best at being raw, visceral and atmospheric.”
These earrings were inspired by the best of Mother Nature’s gifts.
COMPONENTS: I hammered raw brass hoops and from these, I suspended raw brass circles covered in the Grand Manan patina - the result of applying to them different natural ingredients and then leaving them in the open, salty air of the island to “age”. The patina is raw, meaning that it will continue to bloom as you wear the earrings - with very slight alterations here and there, as if the metal were alive. The natural and random variations in the colour of the patina create a 3-dimensional feel to the metal. Aquas, bronzes, and browns dance together and represents the colours of Grand Manan Island.. Hanging on stainless steel, handmade earwires.
If you have ever visited amazing Grand Manan Island, you know that the weather can charge within minutes, literally, and sometimes, there is an overlap of sunshine on the one hand and fog rolling in on the other. At Fernleigh Ridge, sometimes we can still see the blue, blue ocean in the summer while the fog is sending its tentacles onto land. This effect was the inspiration for these earrings….
DIMENSIONS: Overall length (from top of earwire to lowest part of earrings) approx. 2”, 5 cm.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Do not submerge the earrings. If the earrings get wet, dab the moisture away gently with tissue.
The photos are of a sample pair of earrings. Yours will be as close to the images as possible.
FREE SHIPPING - This item will ship from either New Brunswick or Ontario.
